Unspool exists to close the gap between reaching out and being truly understood. Here's the story, the mission and the values behind it.

Founder — BACP Accredited counsellor
Our story
Marcel Adorjan is a BACP Accredited counsellor with extensive experience supporting people affected by addiction, both as a therapist and through managing teams of addiction professionals. Over the years, he has developed a deep understanding of how addiction impacts not only the individual, but also partners, families and carers.
Recognising the wider effects of addiction led him to expand his work with couples and groups, where he gained further insight into the importance of shared experiences, connection and mutual support throughout the recovery journey.

Co-founder
Gabriela is the co-founder of Unspool. Her background is in Learning & Development and HR — she's Associate CIPD qualified, with additional training in Mental Health Awareness and counselling skills. Years spent helping people grow, navigate change, and get unstuck in their working lives taught her how much the right support, at the right moment, can change someone's path. Unspool exists because she wanted to make that same kind of support easier to find for people dealing with addiction and addictive behaviours — matched quickly, without the usual barriers.
Why we created Unspool
We created Unspool because we understand how difficult it can be for people struggling with addiction and addictive behaviours to reach out, open up and trust someone with their story.
Too often, when that first step is met by someone who does not truly understand addiction, people feel misunderstood and retreat back into isolation.
We saw the need for specialist support that combines expertise with genuine understanding — a safe space where clients feel heard, not judged, and know they are in the right place to begin meaningful change.
Our mission
Our mission is to connect people affected by addiction and addictive behaviours with the right therapist — not just any therapist. Someone who truly understands the complexities of addiction, the courage it takes to ask for help, and the impact it has on every area of life.
We believe that feeling understood is the foundation of meaningful change. Unspool exists to bridge the gap between those seeking support and therapists with the specialist experience, compassion and insight needed to help them move forward.
Our values
People struggling with addiction and addictive behaviours deserve more than general support. They deserve therapists who truly understand the complexities of addiction, recovery and the impact it has on individuals, relationships and families.
We create a space where people feel seen, heard and understood without judgement. Compassion is at the heart of helping people move beyond shame and isolation towards connection and change.
Trust starts with honesty. We are clear about our approach, our therapists' expertise and the support we provide, helping people make informed choices about their recovery journey.
We are committed to improving the way addiction support is accessed — connecting people with specialist therapists and developing new ways to make meaningful support more accessible.
Recovery is not something people should face alone. Alongside specialist therapy, we help facilitate connection through fellowships and an online recovery community, creating opportunities for shared experience, support and belonging.
